Let's jump into how you can harness the power of Marquee to maximize your promotional efforts and reach more fans than ever before.
What Is Spotify's Marquee?
Spotify's Marquee is a premium advertising tool designed to promote new releases to targeted listeners. It's a full-screen, sponsored recommendation that appears when a user opens the Spotify app, showcasing your latest single or album.
How Marquee Works
When they open Spotify, Marquee displays your new release to your existing fans and potential new listeners. It targets users based on their listening habits, ensuring your music reaches those most likely to enjoy it. You'll set a budget and campaign duration, typically seven days, during which Spotify serves your Marquee to relevant users. The ad includes artwork, a short text description, and a call-to-action button prompting listeners to play your release. Marquee's algorithm optimizes delivery to maximize impact, showing your ad to users when they're most likely to engage with new music.
Benefits of Using Marquee
Marquee offers several advantages for artists and labels promoting new releases. It boosts visibility, placing your music front and center when users open Spotify. This increased exposure often leads to higher stream counts and saves, potentially improving your placement in Spotify's algorithms. Marquee's targeting capabilities ensure your ad reaches listeners likely to enjoy your music, increasing the chances of gaining new fans. It also provides detailed analytics, tracking campaign performance, listener demographics, and engagement rates. This data can inform future promotional strategies and help you understand your audience better.

Best Practices for Effective Marquee Promotion
Maximizing the impact of your Spotify Marquee campaign requires strategic planning and execution. Follow these best practices to ensure your promotion reaches the right audience and drives meaningful results.
Timing Your Campaign
Launch your Marquee campaign within the first week of your release to capitalize on initial momentum. Schedule the ad to coincide with peak listening times, typically weekdays between 10 AM and 4 PM. Align your campaign with other promotional activities, such as social media pushes or live events, to create a cohesive marketing strategy. Consider running multiple shorter campaigns rather than one long campaign to maintain visibility without overwhelming listeners. Monitor real-time data and adjust your timing based on performance metrics to optimize future campaigns.
Targeting the Right Audience
Leverage Spotify's audience targeting tools to reach listeners most likely to engage with your music. Focus on fans of similar artists or genres to expand your reach. Use geographic targeting to promote local shows or region-specific content. Exclude your existing followers to maximize new listener discovery. Analyze your current fan base demographics and tailor your targeting accordingly. Experiment with different audience segments and track performance to refine your targeting strategy over time. Spotify's first-party data can target users based on listening habits and preferences.
Crafting Compelling Ad Copy
Create concise, attention-grabbing headlines that highlight your release's uniqueness. Use action-oriented language to encourage immediate listening. Incorporate keywords relevant to your genre and style to improve discoverability. Showcase positive reviews or notable collaborations to build credibility. Include a clear call-to-action that prompts users to stream your music. Ensure your ad copy aligns with your artist brand and resonates with your target audience. Test different ad variations to identify the most effective messaging for your campaign.
Measuring the Success of Your Marquee Campaign
Evaluating the effectiveness of your Spotify Marquee campaign is crucial for understanding its impact and refining future promotional strategies. You'll gain valuable insights into your campaign's success by analyzing key performance metrics and calculating your return on investment (ROI).
Key Performance Metrics
Spotify provides several essential metrics to gauge your Marquee campaign's performance:
- Listener reach: The number of unique listeners who saw your Marquee ad
- Click-through rate (CTR): The percentage of viewers who clicked on your ad
- Intent rate: The proportion of listeners who saved your music or added it to a playlist
- Streams generated: The total number of streams attributed to your Marquee campaign
- New listeners acquired: The count of first-time listeners who engaged with your music
- Conversion rate: The percentage of ad viewers who streamed your release
Monitor these metrics throughout your campaign to identify trends and areas for improvement. Compare your results against industry benchmarks to assess your campaign's relative success.
Analyzing Results and ROI
To determine your Marquee campaign's ROI:
- Calculate the total revenue generated from streams attributed to the campaign
- Subtract your campaign costs from the revenue
- Divide the result by your campaign costs and multiply by 100
ROI = [(Revenue - Campaign Costs) / Campaign Costs] x 100
When evaluating overall success, consider long-term benefits like increased fan engagement and playlist inclusions. Use Spotify's analytics tools to track listener retention and playlist additions over time. Compare your Marquee results with other promotional efforts to optimize your marketing strategy and budget allocation for future releases.
Integrating Marquee with Your Overall Marketing Strategy
