COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I switch distributors to LabelGrid?
Sign up at app.labelgrid.com and upload your releases with the same ISRCs, UPCs and metadata you used before, naming your previous distributor in the transfer field on each release. Keep your old distributor live until the LabelGrid deliveries show as live, then request the takedown there. If your catalog is DDEX-formatted and you are on Custom Distribution or an API plan, LabelGrid can set up a DDEX ERN (3.8.2, 4.3.0, 4.3.1 or 4.3.2) import feed over SFTP or S3 for a one-time setup fee. Our support team assists with large catalog migrations.
Will I lose my ISRCs or UPC codes?
Normally no. In most cases the ISRCs and UPCs were assigned to you and stay yours. Check your old distributor's dashboard or terms of service to confirm before you start. When you upload releases to LabelGrid, enter your existing codes and they carry over. Your streaming history and playlist placements remain intact.
Is there a free trial?
Yes, on the Solo, Basic and Pro plans: 7 days with full dashboard access to explore the features and workflows. A card is taken at signup and nothing is charged until the trial ends; distribution starts once you are on a paid plan and verified. Custom Distribution and the API plans have no trial (our team sets them up), and the trial does not include API or sandbox access.
What makes LabelGrid different from other distributors?
LabelGrid is built for labels and distributors, not just individual artists. Key differentiators include a full REST API with public documentation and sandbox environment, multi-label management (up to 50 labels on Custom Distribution, unlimited on Custom API), a complete royalty accounting engine with configurable splits on Basic and above, DDEX import for catalog migration on Custom Distribution and the API plans, native Dolby Atmos delivery on every distribution plan, a WordPress plugin for catalog sync and smart links, and Spotify Preferred Provider status.
Does LabelGrid work for individual artists too?
Yes. While LabelGrid provides advanced label tools, individual artists get the same distribution infrastructure: all major DSPs, transparent pricing, Dolby Atmos on every distribution plan, and Spotify Preferred Provider quality standards. The Solo plan is designed specifically for independent artists. Automated royalty splits and artist payouts start on Basic.
How long does it take to switch?
You can upload to LabelGrid right after signing up; delivery starts once your account is on a paid plan and verified. Leave time for quality review and store processing, which varies by platform. Submit new releases at least 2 weeks before release day (3 to 4 weeks is ideal). For catalog migrations, the timeline depends on catalog size — on Custom Distribution and the API plans, DDEX import makes large migrations significantly faster than manual re-upload.
Does LabelGrid protect my content from AI training?
Yes. Our Terms of Service define 'AI DSP' as a separate category: any platform that uses content for AI training, model development, or synthetic media generation. AI DSP delivery is off by default and opt-in only, with controls at both label and release level. Even if you enable auto-delivery for new DSPs, AI platforms are still excluded. Your distribution license covers delivering content to the DSPs you choose. Nothing else.
Can I distribute AI-generated music through LabelGrid?
Yes, with mandatory disclosure. You declare AI involvement in three required fields — artwork (per release), audio and composition (per track) — each on a four-level scale from no AI to entirely AI-generated, and that disclosure travels with the release to every platform, including Apple Music Transparency Tags and Spotify's DDEX-based labeling. One limit: tracks declared entirely AI-generated are not delivered to YouTube Content ID, YouTube Music, Meta, TikTok or SoundCloud monetization unless you hold a fully exclusive licence to the recording. Impersonation, deepfakes, and deceptive metadata are not allowed. Read our full AI content guide.
